About Mafia Definitive Edition
Mafia: Definitive Edition is Hangar 13's full ground-up remake of 2K Czech's 2002 original. The story is unchanged at its bones — cab driver Tommy Angelo gets pulled into Don Salieri's family during Prohibition-era Lost Heaven, and rises through the ranks despite increasing misgivings — but every line of dialogue, every cutscene, every level has been rebuilt.
Lost Heaven is recreated as a 1930s American city in the lineage of Chicago and New York. Period architecture, vintage automobiles, jazz-era radio broadcasts, and the slow grind of the Great Depression frame every mission. The driving model is closer to the original's deliberate pace than to the more arcade-leaning Mafia II and III.
The expanded story adds new scenes, fleshes out side characters, and rebalances the gunplay and stealth for modern audiences. The original score has been re-recorded and supplemented; iconic missions like the Pursuit on the Bridge and the Race are rebuilt with significantly more polish.
This edition is the only currently-available version of the original Mafia after the legacy release was delisted. Owning it unlocks Tommy's suit and cab as cosmetics in Mafia II and III Definitive Editions.
