Old School Musical

Old School Musical is a rhythm-action game disguised as a tour of retro gaming history. Tib and Rob are heroes on a wacky quest to find out where all the bugs in our favorite games come from. The story mode runs 20 nutty levels through parody versions of classics, with each level requiring you to swing swords or shoot spacecraft to the beat of chiptune music.

The soundtrack is the real centerpiece. Sixty tracks total, with guest contributions from Dubmood, Zabutom, Hello World, Yponeko, Toriena, mistermv and Le Plancton, all veterans of the chiptune and tracker scene. The music informs every level: timing your inputs correctly chains combos and keeps the heroes alive against bugs, chickens (32 varieties) and bosses.

A multiplayer mode supports up to four players for couch rhythm battles, and the visual presentation pushes deliberately lo-fi pixels and CRT-style scanlines. Each parody level riffs on a different recognizable retro game, with bugs and chickens overrunning the screen as the soundtrack drives the action forward. Score chase modes and unlockable content round out the package.
