About Sherlock Holmes Crimes and Punishments
Sherlock Holmes: Crimes and Punishments is structured around six varied cases — murders, disappearances, spectacular thefts, and investigations that occasionally lean toward the fantastic. The campaign sends you across London with Holmes' signature deduction tools, with significant freedom in how you conduct each investigation and what conclusions you reach.
The gameplay vocabulary is detective work. Fourteen extraordinary skills of detection cover everything from observation to chemistry to disguise, each contributing to specific aspects of investigation. Choose which avenues of inquiry to pursue, interrogate suspects, and from your accumulated deductions, name the guilty parties. The deduction board lets you link clues into chains of inference, with the freedom to reach incorrect conclusions if your reasoning is faulty.
The moral question runs through every case. After identifying the perpetrator, you decide their fate — turn them over to the police, let them go for reasons of mercy or justice, or apply a personal verdict somewhere between the two. Your decisions exert real influence on your reputation and produce consequences that surface in unexpected ways. The framing borrows directly from Conan Doyle's novels: Holmes is brilliant but morally complex, and the player is asked to navigate both sides of that contradiction.
