About Turbo Overkill

Turbo Overkill is the loudest first-person shooter Apogee has published since Duke Nukem 3D, openly indebted to DOOM, Quake and the late-90s id catalogue but routed through cyberpunk Paradise — a Blade Runner-meets-hell city overrun by a rogue AI called Syn and its army of augmented enforcers. You play Johnny Turbo, half-metal, half-human, and the central design joke is that you have a chainsaw built into your leg, which the game expects you to use for both traversal and execution.

Momentum is the spine of the combat. Turbo Time is a slow-motion mode with its own twist, wall-running and dashing build speed, grappling hooks pull you across gaps, and the leg chainsaw lets you slide-slice through enemies — eviscerating mooks on contact and opening up bosses for critical damage in the same motion. You can ride the hood of flying cars between encounters, instagib clusters of enemies with the lock-on Twin Magnums, mix the Boomer Shotgun's blast with its attached grenade launcher, or use the Telefragger sniper rifle to teleport inside an enemy before they explode from within.

Two dozen stages cover the campaign, layered with bonus arena fights, secrets, combat puzzles and game-changing collectibles that unlock punishing modifiers like triple-monster-speed or insta-kill. Killing fills your wallet; the wallet funds installed augments, weapon upgrades, and a branching talent tree. Boss kills typically grant their augment as a power, which feeds straight back into how you build the next ten minutes of carnage. Developer Trigger Happy Interactive treats the references as a starting point rather than a ceiling — most of the speed/movement vocabulary here is doing things the influences never tried.
