About We Love Katamari REROLL+ Royal Reverie
We Love Katamari REROLL+ Royal Reverie is the remaster of the 2005 PS2 release We Love Katamari — the second game in the Katamari Damacy series and arguably the warmest entry, since its setup is the King of All Cosmos being deluged with fan requests to use the katamari for whatever the fans need rolled up. The Prince keeps rolling. Stars keep appearing. The cycle continues.
The core gameplay is the same simple but deep loop the series is built on. Roll the katamari around, pick up anything smaller than your current size, watch it grow from paperclips and snacks through telephone poles and buildings to cars, animals and entire neighborhoods. Plan the order in which you roll things up — wrong order and you run out of small enough objects to grow further — and finish the run by sending the completed katamari into the sky to become a star.
The remaster updates the graphics across the board and reworks the in-game UI to be easier to navigate. Royal Reverie is the headline new content: five challenges set in the King of All Cosmos's youth, when he was being educated by his own father, the Great King. The young King has his own physics, his own challenges, and his own perspective on the kind of hard training that produces a katamari-rolling tyrant.
A selfie mode has also been added, letting the Prince and his cousins take quick photos mid-roll. Specifications differ in a few small ways from the 2005 original, but the core feel — strange, sweet, gently absurd — is preserved exactly.
