About X-Plane 11

X-Plane 11 is the eleventh major iteration of Laminar Research's flight simulator and the version that brought the simulation up to the modern standards serious enthusiasts had been waiting for. Detailed, realistic and modern in a way that matters for the specific kind of player who buys flight simulators — anyone hoping to study real aircraft systems against a recreation of the real airspace.

The UI is the headline improvement. A completely redesigned, intuitive user interface makes setting up and editing your flight quick rather than the friction-filled process it had been in previous releases. The interface respects the depth of the underlying simulation while making the workflow approachable for both newcomers and veterans who don't want to fight menus to test something.

The cockpits and aircraft visuals are dramatically upgraded. Every included aircraft has a consistently usable 3D cockpit with the level of detail required for actual instrument flying. Exterior models are stunningly high-resolution. A new effects engine handles lighting, sounds and explosions at a quality the previous versions couldn't match, and 3D audio support adds spatial fidelity to the cockpit experience.

Avionics are realistic. All planes are IFR-ready out of the gate — Instrument Flight Rules capability is built into the included aircraft rather than locked behind paid expansions. The simulation extends to the airports themselves: pushback tugs, roaming fuel trucks, and other ground service vehicles populate the apron and service both your aircraft and AI traffic. New buildings and roads better simulate European cities, and the world-wide scenery extends across the actual globe. For pilot training, learning specific aircraft, or simply spending hours flying over real-world geography, X-Plane 11 is one of the most respected simulators in the genre.
