Dark and Darker

Dark and Darker drops parties of treasure hunters into the depths of a ruined fortress where danger waits at every turn. The pull is classic fantasy adventure, full of monsters, traps and untold riches, but the catch is harsh: gather your loot, then find a way out before the encroaching darkness swallows you and everything you carry.

Survival improves with a balanced party of three. Players pick from a roster of familiar fantasy roles, perhaps a sturdy barbarian anchoring the front while a ranger picks off targets at range and a bard keeps the group's spirits up. Combat is first-person and deliberate, with each weapon carrying its own attack pattern and bonus damage for hits to the head or back. Magic is potent but awkward, demanding long incantations, the right gear and careful timing.

The world rewards caution and punishes mistakes. Shadows can hide an ambush or cover a retreat, deeper portals lead to greater monsters and rarer artifacts, and none of your spoils count for anything unless you reach an exit before the swarm arrives.
