About DR LIVESEY ROM AND DEATH EDITION
DR LIVESEY ROM AND DEATH EDITION takes the walking, cackling Dr Livesey from the 1988 Soviet animated adaptation of Treasure Island — a clip that became an internet phonk meme — and builds an entire bullet-hell beat-em-up around him. You control Livesey and his two crewmates Jimmy and Squire as they wade through hordes of enemies across a string of biomes, each ending with a boss fight scored to maximally aggressive phonk.
The framing follows Stevenson's novel only loosely. The doctor's expedition to Treasure Island is sabotaged from within by a mutinous faction of the crew; once the conspiracy is exposed, the game switches into pure forward motion, with the trio cutting through whatever stands between them and the buried treasure. Random ultimate abilities drop during runs, special items modify your loadout, and hidden treasure rooms reward exploration off the main path.
The presentation is openly committed to the source meme: the art style mimics the Soviet classic cartoon, the music is loud and relentless, and the trailer-level promises — walking Dr Livesey, megahuge detailed world, truly bullet hell — are not exaggerated by the game itself. It's a small, focused, deeply specific joke that happens to also be a coherent action game underneath.
