About FAR Lone Sails
FAR: Lone Sails is a quiet, side-on adventure game built around a single piece of machinery — a part-locomotive, part-sailing-ship contraption that you operate alone across a vast dried-out ocean. Cloud-strewn skies stretch over a graveyard of submarines, supertankers and decayed island settlements, all hinting at a civilisation that lived on the water until it wasn't there any more, and the journey is your character's attempt to follow what they left behind.
Most of the moment-to-moment play is about keeping the vessel moving. You shovel fuel into the boiler, run between stations to vent steam before it overpressures, raise and lower the sail when wind direction shifts, and repair the inevitable damage from environmental hazards on the move. New modules attach to the ship as the game progresses — fire extinguisher, welder, automated debris catcher — turning a fragile starter craft into something better adapted to what the journey is throwing at it.
Between mechanical interventions, the game leaves long stretches of pure travel: an evocative soundtrack, weather rolling across the screen, the silhouette of your machine pushing through ruins. There are no zombies, no enemies, no combat — just you, the vehicle, and the empty distance, which the developers, Swiss studio Okomotive, treat as the actual subject of the game.
