About Going Medieval
Going Medieval is a medieval colony management sim from Foxy Voxel, in the lineage of Rimworld and the deeper end of the colony-sim genre. The setting is a depopulated Europe 50 years after a plague wiped out 95% of humanity, and you're guiding survivors as they rebuild civilisation from three lost travellers up.
The core feature distinguishing it from Rimworld is the full 3D voxel terrain system. You can dig underground caverns, build sprawling multi-storey forts, and shape the landscape itself. Buildings stack vertically and connect through stairs, ladders, and floors, so a castle isn't a single-floor footprint but a tower with hallways, kitchens, chapels, and dungeons.
Settlers are characters with individual skills, personality traits, religious beliefs, and preferences. A Swineherd named Grimbold might have unmatched Animal Handling and a Savage personality that makes him a strong Brawler. Keeping settlers happy through food, clothing, faith, and decoration is the throughline.
Research unlocks medieval tech — better weapons, armour, siege defenses, and crafting equipment. Bandit raids and beast attacks force defensive planning, with research-gated traps and walls allowing castle-tier fortifications. Random map generation and full mod support extend the long-tail. Soundtrack and atmosphere lean into the dark, hard-edged Dark Age tone.
