Horizon's Gate

Horizon's Gate is an open-world tactical RPG built around exploration, trade and ship-to-ship combat across the diverse world of Eral. You can play it as an explorer charting unknown coasts, a trader running cargo between cities, or a privateer terrorizing shipping lanes — and the main story about Dominio's betrayal is genuinely optional. The game accommodates whichever role you decide to play.

Combat sits at the heart of the experience and works the same way on land and at sea. Deep but straightforward tactical mechanics borrowed from the developer's Voidspire Tactics and Alvora Tactics translate cleanly to both naval engagements (where ships are the units) and ground combat (where your crew explores dungeons in person). You can disembark from your ship at any port to investigate dungeons with your crew, which makes exploration a real two-layer activity.

Character building is the long-term hook. Eight playable races sit at the start of character creation. Thirty-six classes can be unlocked across play. Over 150 abilities can be learned and upgraded, and over 100 passive abilities can be equipped to customize each crew member further. Building a devastating armada of Ice Reavers and Sea Serpents is one option; sailing past trouble with a small, swift fleet is another; serving under one of three factions, amassing wealth as a trader, or becoming a feared pirate are all fully viable.

Abilities have utility beyond combat. Freeze a river to walk across it. Grow seeds into vines to scale mountains. The puzzle layer of exploration is genuinely shaped by your party's skill loadout. The setting is unique fantasy — not one elf, orc or goblin in sight — and prior knowledge of the developer's earlier games is not required. It's a deep, generous tactical RPG that respects your time and lets you build the campaign you want.
