About Kao the Kangaroo Round 2 (2003 re-release)

Kao the Kangaroo: Round 2 is a 2003 3D arcade platformer brought back for digital distribution at the explicit request of long-time fans who pushed for its return through #BringKaoBack. The setup is the genre's familiar one: the evil Hunter and his henchmen have captured Kao's animal friends, and only the eponymous kangaroo — boxing gloves on, bouncing through five colorful worlds — can rescue them.

Gameplay covers the breadth of early-2000s 3D platforming. Twenty-five levels across the five worlds mix straightforward jumping puzzles with combat segments, racing sections and puzzle-solving rooms. Around thirty different enemy types fill out the opposition, each with their own quirks, and proper boss encounters cap the major progression beats. Kao's punches, kicks and bounce-attacks form the combat verbs.

This Steam release wraps the 2003 original in modern conveniences. Steam achievements, cloud saves, high-resolution support and full controller support (Xbox 360/One and PS4 pads) all ship in the package. The game itself is unchanged from the version that originally released two decades ago — the appeal is genuine nostalgia rather than a remake.

For players who grew up with N64-era platformers like Banjo-Kazooie or Spyro, this fills a similar slot. For newcomers, it's a window into a specific moment of platformer design — playful, lightweight, never aiming for prestige, and exactly as charming as the genre got when it wasn't trying to be anything more than itself.
