Low Magic Age

Low Magic Age is an open-world fantasy RPG that builds directly on the OGL ruleset descended from Wizards of the Coast's pen-and-paper D&D foundations, applied carefully to a computer game format. The game opens onto a sandbox medieval-fantasy world where you can adventure however you choose — explore villages, cities and perilous dungeons, build heroic characters with various abilities, and find your own way of life through a world of sword and magic.

The combat system is the game's depth anchor. Strategic turn-based fights include field of view, fog of war, charging and flanking mechanics, spell schools, and combat maneuvers, with circumstance modifiers (full-attack, covering, in-melee, prone) giving each encounter genuine tactical choices. Seven categories of classical fantasy monsters with over 100 individual creature types — goblins, trolls, giant ants, basilisks and many more — each require different strategies. Over 60 common items, 90 wondrous items and 80 enchantments support deep gear progression, with weapons that deal slashing, piercing or bludgeoning damage each excelling against different threats.

The Adventure mode handles the open sandbox with cities, villages and metropolises of different sizes, numerous random dungeons with hidden treasures and traps, dynamically generated town quests, and a region-by-region trade goods system where buying local specialties and reselling them far away forms a viable income strategy. The fast-paced Arena mode strips away the wandering and focuses on combat, looting and character developing in concentrated form. Caster classes' arcane and divine spells have been significantly expanded over the base ruleset, and martial classes get a variety of fighting maneuvers beyond basic attacks.
