About Mage and Monsters
Mage and Monsters is an active auto battler where you create an army that fights for you while you cast spells to support it. The strategic tension: should you upgrade the might of your army or increase the power of your spells? Each decision shapes the run's eventual outcome against escalating monster waves.
8 mage characters each carry a special bonus and starting spell, with 2 additional pure-combat mages for players who prefer minimal magic. 25 distinct units can be recruited, and 35 different monsters populate the enemies you'll face. 11 unique spells can be cast in battle to help your army through damage, healing, control or buff effects.
Blood Shards earned through play spend on Power Ups before starting new games, providing the meta-progression layer. The arena map and forest map each offer 30 normal levels followed by 5 levels of endgame content, while the cave map randomizes enemies for each level. Cover art by Dean Spencer adds professional polish to the small indie project. SplatterCat called it a great idea for a game, and the auto-battler-meets-spellcasting hybrid distinguishes it from pure-auto and pure-active variants in the genre.
