About Of Life and Land
The Life and Suffering of Sir Brante is a narrative RPG written on the pages of the protagonist's journal. The setting is the Great Arknian Empire, a ruthlessly stratified society where the Twin Gods have divided mortals into Lots (nobles rule, clergy guides, commoners suffer). You play a commoner who has dared to challenge the existing order.
The game spans Sir Brante's entire life from birth to true death, divided into chapters that track choices, acquired skills and overlapping circumstances. Every decision has consequences across the entire journey: protecting family, imposing imperial rule, building fortunes, or trying to change the world. The first complete playthrough runs upwards of 15 hours, with branching paths supporting paths as judge, inquisitor, member of secret revolutionary societies, or other identities.
Character progression evolves through traits like determination, sensitivity and endurance, with all skills (starting in infancy) affecting personality, worldview and relationships. A unique resurrection system lets characters retain experience upon death, letting players reevaluate past steps and adjust strategy. The choices ripple beyond the protagonist's life, potentially toppling the Empire itself depending on which direction you push events.
