About Pawnbarian
Pawnbarian compresses a roguelike into bite-sized chess puzzles. You play cards from a deck of chess pieces to move your hero around a tiny dungeon board, outmaneuver enemies with tricky abilities, and conquer the Chesslands one short run at a time. If you know chess, the basics drop in instantly; if you don't, the rules take minutes to absorb.
The depth lives in the emergent tactical situations. Each turn forces you to plan moves carefully, navigating a board full of monsters whose unique movement and abilities chain into combinations that punish careless play. Treasure between fights buys card upgrades with additional powers, but no permanent unlocks gate progression: the satisfaction comes from your own growing mastery rather than from a meta-tree.
15-30 minute runs blitz through quick sessions. Six characters and three dungeons each demand a different approach, an infinite post-run Gauntlet asks how long you can survive, and Chains stack extra difficulty modifiers for those who want to push past clean victories.
