About Police Stories The Academy
Police Stories: The Academy is a free standalone version of Police Stories featuring a new story, missions and locations. The framing turns the protagonists into rookies — Rick and John, the duo from the main game, are now inexperienced trainees still learning the basics of police work when another quiet day at the academy goes sideways. Civil unrest breaks out across the city, and a 'rat' connected to the local mafia turns up inside the police station itself. Naturally, two student cops are the only people available to handle it.
The gameplay holds to the original's design pillars. Inspired by SWAT 4 and cop TV shows, the game presents a fresh take on top-down shooters with a heavy emphasis on tactics — decisions have to be made in a split second, but reflex isn't the answer. Rescuing hostages, neutralizing criminals and defusing bombs all reward planning over shooting first. The Surrender System lets you apprehend suspects without resorting to lethal force: fire a warning shot near them, engage in melee combat, use non-lethal options to make them submit.
Three new missions and locations sit alongside the police academy training ground. Issue commands to your partner Rick Jones — use him wisely and he might save your life in return. Randomly placed criminals, hostages and evidence make every level unique on replay. Modern police equipment like under-the-door cameras and door blast charges expands tactical options. Various lawbreaker types — petty criminals, organized gangs, terrorists — each carry distinct weapons, behavior and shooting skill. All actions are scored in real time, and playing aggressively won't earn a high enough result to unlock the next mission. Co-op is fully supported for better scores and more fun.
