About Spark the Electric Jester
Spark the Electric Jester is an action platformer heavily inspired by 16-bit-era classics from both Sega and Nintendo, blending the speed-focused level design of Sonic with the encounter design and combo combat of action-platformers like Ristar and Kid Chameleon.
The protagonist is Spark, an electric jester whose entertainment job has been taken by a robot during a sudden machine-led takeover of the world. Frustrated and out of work, he sets out for revenge against the robots and the specific one that replaced him.
Gameplay alternates between high-speed running sections — momentum-driven, full of curves, ramps, and loop-de-loops — and combat encounters that lean closer to a hack-and-slash with chainable combos and special electric attacks. The mix is genuinely energetic and harder to find in modern releases than it should be.
Solo developer Lake Feperd had previously made several fan-game Sonic projects, and Spark is the first fully original release in this lineage. The pixel-art aesthetic, music, and level structure all clearly draw from the era the developer grew up on, but the action and platforming are tuned for current sensibilities. A small game with disproportionately devoted fans.
