About Prognostic
Prognostic is a first-person detective horror built around historical European divination practices used as actual gameplay tools. The protagonist is a young man whose family died under unexplained circumstances. He returns to the house of his grandmother — a fortune-teller now deceased — to inherit her legacy, master her craft, and find whoever was responsible for his parents' deaths. The danger is that the same supernatural forces that drove the grandmother mad are now circling the new heir.
The rituals are the centerpiece of the gameplay. Drawing on real Western European and Scandinavian divination traditions — cartomancy, scrying, lot-casting and adjacent methods — the game implements each as a hands-on interactive ritual rather than an abstract menu choice. You shuffle, deal, read, and feel the cards at your fingertips through a detailed simulation of the rites themselves. The rituals immerse you in the world's mood while also serving as protection — temporary, partial protection — against the forces closing in.
The investigation layer ties everything together. Each new night brings a new crime in the cursed town, and your job is to find killers, missing people and the motives behind both, working from physical evidence in combination with the visions that divination grants you. The grandmother's house itself functions as a slowly unlocking puzzle, with new rooms opening up to reveal additional divination methods and family secrets as you progress.
