About The Exit 8
The Exit 8 is a short walking simulator inspired by Japanese underground passageways, liminal spaces, and the back-rooms aesthetic that has become its own horror subgenre. You are trapped in an endless underground passageway. Your goal is to reach Exit 8. The rules are simple and absolute.
Observe your surroundings carefully. If you find an anomaly — anything that looks wrong, anything that wasn't there before, any small difference between this corridor and the last — turn back immediately. If you don't find an anomaly, do not turn back. Continue forward. Each clean corridor brings you closer to Exit 8; each missed anomaly resets your progress and may bring something worse than another loop.
The gameplay is observation and pattern recognition. You walk a single repeating section of corridor over and over, and your job is to notice when something is subtly different. Sometimes it's an object that has moved. Sometimes it's a light that's the wrong color. Sometimes it's a reflection that shouldn't exist. The horror emerges from the player's own attention to detail — or failure of it.
Play time is 15 to 60 minutes depending on how quickly you read the corridor and how patient you are with the loop. The game is available only in Japanese and English, but the description above is essentially the entire instruction set; once you understand the rule about anomalies, you can play through. Camera and graphics options accommodate motion sensitivity, with adjustable camera shake, acceleration and motion blur to reduce intoxication risk during longer sessions.
