About The Forest Quartet
The Forest Quartet is a short puzzle-adventure game about loss, grief, and a band losing its lead singer Nina. You play her spirit, returning for a final farewell concert across three acts each shaped by one of her surviving bandmates' grief.
Kirk's act is the corrupted forest he once drew inspiration from, with fungus creeping across the green. You use the power of voice to restore it. JB's act is a house swallowed in darkness, with creatures rising from underground; you find the light to reignite his musical spark. Mel's act takes you through a volcanic eruption as a swarm of butterflies through pipes, restoring the underground water system.
There is no written instruction text. Powers — singing, gliding, creating light from fingertips, transforming into butterflies — are introduced through environment and gained progressively. Environments themselves layer onto the soundtrack: forest fires crackle into the music, cave winds add cold harmonies.
A personal project. The original jazz score is by the developer Mads Vadsholt's father Kaspar Vadsholt, Nina is voiced by his sister Nina Vadsholt (recording artist NV-4), and the soundtrack is performed by select musicians from The Danish Radio Big Band. Short enough to finish in an evening.
