About Unavowed
Unavowed is Wadjet Eye Games' urban-fantasy point-and-click adventure, a standalone story set in the same broader world as the Blackwell series but designed as an entry point that requires no prior knowledge. The opening premise: a demon possessed you a year ago, and for that year your body tore a trail of bloodshed through New York City. The Unavowed — an ancient society dedicated to stopping evil — finally exorcise the demon. The problem is that everything in your old life is gone, the police are still looking for you, and the only path forward is to join the people who saved you.
The customisation surface is broader than typical for the studio. You choose male or female, pick one of three origin stories (each with their own pre-possession profession that shapes how characters react to you), and during the game you assemble a team of up to four companion characters — each with their own talents, abilities and storylines. Two-companion combinations on each case affect what's possible and what's available to investigate, so a single playthrough only sees a fraction of the total branching content.
The writing leans into the consequences of an interrupted life rather than a clean revenge fantasy. New York's supernatural infrastructure runs parallel to its visible one, and the cases you take on as a new Unavowed agent — a haunted family, a possessed celebrity, a tangle of contested supernatural turf — are mostly about helping people whose problems were already in motion before you arrived. The presentation runs at twice the resolution of the studio's earlier games, with full voice acting, original music, optional developer commentary, and the kind of careful character writing that has been Wadjet Eye's signature for the last decade.
