About Worms Armageddon

Worms Armageddon is the 1999 Team17 entry that most fans consider the high-water mark of the long-running 2D artillery franchise. The premise is unchanged from earlier Worms games — teams of cartoon invertebrates lob increasingly absurd weapons at each other across destructible terrain — but the catalogue of weapons, the depth of tactical options, and the sheer absurdity of the toolkit hit a level of saturation here that the series rarely matched again.

Over 55 weapons and tools cover the arsenal, ranging from baseline shotguns and grenades to setpiece nonsense like the Concrete Donkey, Earthquake, Freeze and the French Sheep Strike. The single-player campaign covers more than forty story-based missions, plus deathmatch modes and five specialised training modes — Sheep Racing, Crazy Crates, Advanced Weapon Training, and others — for honing the kind of precision aiming that competitive Worms players take very seriously. Over thirty custom and comedy sound banks, from stiff upper lip to Cyberworms, let you flavour the team's chatter to taste.

Multiplayer is where the game has lived for decades. Handicapping (add or deduct energy for a team), Allied Teams, Worms Disease, Home Runs and many further options layer onto standard match types to keep custom rule sets fresh, and the long-running community has produced enough additional content and competitive play patterns to sustain the game far past its original commercial life. Team17 continues to update Armageddon periodically — the most recent patches are still landing on a 25-plus-year-old game — and it remains the entry most players reach for when introducing the series to someone new.
