Angry Video Game Nerd Adventures

Angry Video Game Nerd Adventures is the official video game based on James Rolfe's long-running AVGN web series. Modeled on Mega Man and Castlevania design, the game runs 10 fast-paced 2D action levels themed around the kinds of bad games the Nerd reviews on his show, with the AVGN himself and a roster of friends as playable characters.

Difficulty is intentionally old-school. Every checkpoint, boss kill and stage clear is earned the way NES-era games made you earn it: through repeated death, pattern learning and reflex tightening. Hidden secrets, cameos and power-ups stuffed across the campaign reward exploration. Multiple playable characters offer different stats and abilities for various playstyles.

Freebird Games tackled the project with full series creator collaboration, so the references and tone match the show exactly. The studio explicitly encourages streamers and Let's Players to monetize their playthroughs without restrictions. A deluxe re-release combining this game with the sequel AVGN II: ASSimilation is also available. For fans of fart jokes, the Nerd, and old-school platforming, this hits the target dead on.
