About Children of Morta
Children of Morta is an action-RPG with roguelike pacing built around an unusual premise: you don't play a single protagonist, you play an entire family. The Bergsons live at the foot of Mount Morta as its guardians, and as the Corruption spreads across the world they take turns descending into the procedurally generated dungeons below to fight it back. There's no permadeath — when one family member needs rest, you swap to another, and progress accumulates across the whole household rather than any individual character.
The seven playable Bergsons each carry their own combat identity. John, the father, is a protective sword-and-shield warrior. Linda is a precise long-range archer. Kevin is a quiet dagger fighter built around mobility. Lucy is a bold fire mage. Mark is a mindful martial artist. Joey crushes enemies with a sledgehammer. Apan, the latest addition, is a healer who can also hold a line. Leveling each character unlocks ranged attacks, magic spells, blocks, stuns, healing options, evasions and passive skills, with family-wide upgrades layered on top.
Dungeon crawling is the moment-to-moment loop. Each procedurally generated dungeon runs two to four levels deep with a unique boss waiting at the end, and you can return to previous dungeons for additional XP or unfinished side quests. The presentation combines hand-painted pixel art and frame-by-frame animations with modern lighting techniques to give the world a distinctive painterly quality. Online co-op is available alongside local co-op in both Story and Family Trials modes, and the developer's full content roadmap — including all post-launch additions — has been completed.
