About Cryptmaster
Cryptmaster is a dungeon-crawling adventure where the entire interface is words. Four heroes who died long ago saving the world have been awoken by a capricious necromancer who calls himself the Cryptmaster, and the only way back to the surface is to recover their lost memories — abilities, names, histories — by typing or speaking words into the game's blanks.
The word-input system extends to every system. Combat works by typing the names of abilities you've remembered, with subsystems for puzzles, fishing, card games, and even bardic rap battles where you and an NPC trade rhymed insults in real time. The Soulstone, your companion artifact, holds the memories you've recovered and the keys to the floors above.
Lee Williams and Paul Hart's design treats player creativity as the core verb. The game accepts a wide vocabulary of solutions for many of its puzzles, and remembering words you weren't expected to remember is often rewarded. The crypt rises through the Bonehouses, the Sunken Sea, and the Downwood; the mystery at the heart of why the Cryptmaster has revived you is the long arc.
