Ctrl Alt Ego

Ctrl Alt Ego positions itself as an innovative genre mashup — first-person immersive sim, puzzler, FPS, RPG — with mechanics that the developer is openly proud of pushing past genre conventions. You play yourself, minus your body. Your disembodied ego transmits between bots and devices, exploiting whatever capabilities each host offers to solve problems on your own terms.

Two mechanical inversions define the design. There is no inventory — the environment is your always-available, on-demand diegetic inventory, and every interaction happens through whatever the world offers in the moment. There is no player death either — your invincible ego always lives on, so if your current host is destroyed, you pick another and carry on. (A traditional save/load system exists for players who refuse to accept the premise.)

The world evokes 70s and 80s low-budget British sci-fi television — chunky industrial geometry, color palettes that signal pre-CGI special effects, a darkly farcical story about the future of human consciousness. Once you've ctrl'd a robot, it's yours to keep; amass an army and bring it with you. Hop between robots across an area in near-instant transitions, or move around the old-fashioned way. The combat is optional — pacifist runs work.
