About Darkest Hour A Hearts of Iron Game
Darkest Hour: A Hearts of Iron Game grew out of the Paradox modding community and was eventually released as a standalone built on the Hearts of Iron 2 engine. The scope is wider than the base series allowed: ten grand campaign start dates running from 27 June 1914 (the Great War) through 16 December 1944 (the Battle of the Bulge), plus dedicated scenarios for the Russo-Japanese War and the invasion of Poland.
The core systems remain recognizable Paradox grand strategy: real-time daily ticks, build queues for divisions and industry, tech trees, supply lines, leader assignments and political sliders. What's been rebuilt is the AI, which juggles hundreds of concurrent situations more believably, and the diplomacy, which lets the player swing alliances and provoke wars in ways the original couldn't simulate.
The map is redrawn with more provinces for finer-grained military operations, and any nation involved in a campaign is playable, from major powers down to minor states. The depth rewards historical knowledge but doesn't require it.
