DARQ tells the story of Lloyd, a boy who becomes aware that he's dreaming. The dream quickly turns into a nightmare, and every attempt to wake up fails. The only path forward is through — exploring the darkest corners of his subconscious, learning to bend the laws of physics, and manipulating the fluid fabric of the dream world to escape what's stalking him through it.

Gameplay covers two main verbs: walking and hiding. Lloyd can walk on walls and ceilings, and gravity-defying puzzles built around that mechanic are the game's primary challenge. Rotate rooms. Move objects. Collect and use found items. The geometry of each scene is its own puzzle, and figuring out how the dream's physics actually work is the experience the design is built around.

Stealth is the second pillar. Lloyd cannot win an open confrontation with the creatures he encounters — they're much more powerful and faster than him — so he has to rely on careful planning to avoid getting detected. The horror is built on slow tension and creepy atmosphere rather than gore or jump scares, and the design specifically avoids the cheap startle moments most psychological-horror titles overuse.

The presentation is the project's specific signature. A unique art style and detailed environments combine with sound design by Bjørn Jacobsen — known for his work on Cyberpunk 2077 and Hitman — to produce an atmosphere that lingers. Hidden secrets reward hardcore players willing to push past the main path. This Complete Edition bundles the base game with two DLCs — The Tower and The Crypt — making it the most complete version of the experience available on Steam.
