Death of a Wish

Death of a Wish is an action-RPG from solo developer Colin Horgan (melessthanthree, Lucah: Born of a Dream), continuing the surreal-religious aesthetic of his earlier work into something more sprawling and combat-focused. You play Christian, raised by a theocratic order, leading new comrades in a revolt against the four Sanctum Faiths: Father, Sister, Cardinal, and Priest.

The combat system rewards style as much as raw damage. The Corruption consuming Christian advances when you fight poorly; high combat ranks and graceful combos hold it at bay. Each fight is a balance of expressive aggression and discipline.

Magical combos called Arias rip through enemies, and powerful Virtues alter your battle approach — passive modifiers that shape your rhythm and let you build a fighter that suits your reflexes and aesthetic. The customisation surface is genuinely deep.

The world of Paradiso is rendered in a surreal aesthetic of harsh pulsating scratches on a sea of darkness. Nicolo Telesca's score mixes electronic and live instrumentation, ranging from tense anxiety to electrifying catharsis. Content warnings exist for photosensitivity — the visual style includes pulsating light and high-contrast strobe effects.
