Enter The Backrooms

Enter The Backrooms is a survival horror game set inside an infinite maze known as The Backrooms, an endless expanse of humming lights, stained carpet and old wallpaper. Simply being there gnaws at your sanity, surfacing as unexplainable sights and sounds, and you have to meditate to recover before the psychological effects overwhelm you.

The maze runs to 34 main levels plus 20 secret ones, ranging from claustrophobic tunnels to infinite cities, with over 100 distinct sub-levels tucked inside them and small structures that reward exploration. You are never alone: more than a dozen entities roam the levels, most of them hostile beasts that drain you in body and mind and grow more malicious the deeper you go, though a few will actually help. Survival means stocking an inventory with items, collecting empowering artifacts, and reading scattered journal pages for hints.

The game draws heavily on the collaborative fiction of The Backrooms Database, splicing in original ideas to make a more cohesive whole. It was built without a game engine by a single teenager in their spare time, and it is upfront about that, since this is a deliberately rough, low-priced experience aimed at players who want creeping surreal dread rather than polish or visual spectacle.
