About Guns, Gore and Cannoli 2

Guns, Gore & Cannoli 2 picks up fifteen years after the Thugtown Massacre that closed the first game. The year is 1944, Europe is in the closing stages of the war, and loose ends from Vinnie Cannoli's past have come back to drag him from the American mob landscape onto the European battlefields of World War II. Someone is hunting him, and turning his friends into foes in the process — the title summary covers the rest.

The action is faster than the original. Vinnie has received a substantial mobility upgrade — 360-degree aiming, double jumps, kicks, jump-kicks, dodge rolls, somersaults, dual guns and a proper weapon wheel. The genre's run-and-gun fundamentals are still here, but the moveset is now closer to a modern action game than to a Contra throwback. Movement feels good, and combat rewards stringing actions together rather than camping behind cover.

The environments are the visual headline. Every level breathes 1940s detail: the cars, furniture, speakeasy clubs, propaganda posters, music, streets and weaponry all reflect the wartime period with care. Walls come down, barrels explode, crates drop on enemies, cars detonate. Enemies kicked through doors fly into ragdoll arcs. The destruction is gratuitous and constant, and the rocket launcher is exactly as ridiculous as the rest implies.

The humor sits underneath all of it. Vinnie blurts cynical one-liners after juicy kills. Comical dialog and ridiculous enemy designs balance the violence with deliberate slapstick. The single-player and multiplayer campaigns are packed with animated cutscenes that carry the story forward, and the whole package commits fully to being both a serious shooter and a deliberately stupid one.
