About Haiku, the Robot
Haiku, the Robot is a Metroidvania set in a post-human mechanical world where machines were the only intelligent beings left after humanity's extinction. Four artificial intelligences evolved and built a world of order and stability that lasted for many years — until a virus spread, corrupted the programs first, then the machines themselves, and the world began breaking down. Haiku wakes up into the aftermath, and the campaign is the work of restoring order.
The gameplay covers classic Metroidvania pillars with modern execution. Dodge, dash and slash through machine-like enemies. Jump, zip and blink past challenging platforming obstacles. Meet a wide cast of interesting characters — both friends and corrupted enemies — across a vast interconnected world full of hidden secrets, fierce opposition and quirky robot personalities. Powerful items and abilities unlock as you progress, opening previously inaccessible areas in the genre's signature interlocking style.
The customization layer comes through the chip system, which lets you tune your playstyle by equipping different combinations of upgrades. The presentation uses Game Boy-inspired pixel art with every frame hand-animated, achieving genuine retro aesthetics paired with modern responsive controls. Recent additions include Obscure Information (back-to-back boss battles in the Trial of Steel, two new bosses, a new area to explore, expanded lore) and Corrupt Mode (a new challenging mode with one health point, temporary health upgrades, alternative storyline, new train stations and new achievements).
