Hedon Bloodrite

Hedon Bloodrite combines the original Hedon and its sequel Hedon II into a single hand-crafted 20+ hour singleplayer experience that draws as much from classic RPGs, Immersive Sims and Adventure Games as it does from the retro FPS genre it visually evokes. You play Zan, an orc warrior whose homeland is under demonic invasion, and the campaign sends her and her sisters deep into a sprawling underground world to fight for their people's survival.

The world itself is the game's most distinctive feature. Ancient and medieval civilizations meet uncanny crystal-powered technologies across a setting that feels older and stranger than typical FPS environments. The atmosphere balances dark, warm and eerie registers — cave drafts whistle, mossy crystals hum in the background, and the lore-rich locations encourage exploration rather than just combat throughput. Complex non-linear handmade levels deliberately avoid waypoint arrows; figuring out where to go and how is part of the puzzle.

Combat is brutal, gory and fast-paced in the 90s tradition. Lined-up axe throws shatter enemies. The Potion Launcher lobs acid. The goblin-made Fragfire Gun includes a flamethrower mode. The Bloodrite-specific RPG layer adds traveling between level clusters, interacting with NPCs, completing optional and hidden side-quests, and seeing your decisions impact the surrounding world. Six difficulty levels change not only damage and progression clues but also individual monster and item placement per map — the Bearzerk difficulty completely shifts gameplay by swapping your regular arsenal for unique melee weapons. The multi-genre soundtrack moves from tense and serene ambient through occasional kicks of heavy metal, including a few Alexander Brandon tracks that never made it into Unreal and Deus Ex. Hedon is fully moddable through standard Doom tooling and DRM-free.
