About DOOM II
DOOM II is id Software's 1994 sequel to the genre-defining original, and the Steam package now bundles both the legacy executable and the 2019 enhanced re-release together with most of the historically separate add-on content. Hell has invaded Earth, the campaign introduces the Super Shotgun and the infamous Icon of Sin, and the underlying loop — explore a map, find the colour-coded keys, find the exit, kill anything that moves in between — is the same demonic clockwork that built the genre.
The bundle includes TNT: Evilution and The Plutonia Experiment, both originally sold as Final Doom: Evilution sends you to a Jovian moon to retake a UAC base swarmed by demons after a misidentified supply ship; Plutonia drops you alone into a ravaged base to seal the last remaining Hell portal. The Master Levels — twenty additional maps designed by independent creators under id's supervision — are included alongside, and the enhanced version layers on upgraded visuals, modern mouse-and-keyboard and controller support, widescreen and native 60 FPS support.
The re-release also pulls in a steadily growing catalogue of free community add-ons — Sigil, Rekkr, Syringe, Double Impact, Arrival, Revolution and others — plus local split-screen co-op and PvP. Anyone logged in via their Slayers Club account picks up cosmetic carryovers into DOOM Eternal. It's effectively the complete DOOM II in one purchase, with three decades of community work bolted on top.
