Mad Games Tycoon 2 lets you start at almost any year between 1976 and 2020 and build a video game company from a garage studio into an industry-dominating empire. The era you choose dictates the technologies available, the platforms relevant, and the kind of games the market wants — early years are home computers and arcades, the mid-game is consoles and handhelds, the late game opens up MMOs, free-to-play, mobile and beyond.

Game development is the central activity. Pick genre, target platform, design choices, theme and licensing — buy popular IPs from books, toys, movies and sports for built-in audiences. Every game becomes part of an IP that can grow into a recognizable franchise, generate merchandise income, be sold to other companies, or be left dormant. Build engines from scratch or license them from competitors; keep your engine current and you can take a cut of every game made with it.

The simulation extends well past development. Publish your own games and other studios' games, set prices and print runs, run marketing campaigns. Manufacture home and handheld consoles — hire technicians, pick era-appropriate parts, choose warranty terms, offer developer incentives, release Pro and Slim variants to extend hardware lifecycles. Up to 100 competing companies share the market, and once you have the upper hand you can acquire them outright and either dictate their roadmap or absorb their IPs and shut them down.

Multiplayer for up to four players turns the same simulation cooperative or competitive. Trade technologies, send funds, sabotage rivals or work together to dominate the charts. Difficulty ranges from very easy through legendary, with a full sandbox mode for players who want to skip optimization entirely. The historical record-keeping is unusually deep — track game-of-the-year winners across decades, compare current and all-time successes, and run a single career for a century if you want.
