MagiCat

MagiCat is a side-scrolling platformer that wears its 16-bit inspirations openly. The hero is a cat with magical powers (dash, high jump, fireball) on a quest to recover a stolen relic, and each level fits the genre's classic shape: navigate hazards, hop on enemies, find secret coins, exit.

What sets MagiCat apart from most retro tributes is that every one of the 63 levels concludes with a unique boss battle. Seven worlds host nine levels each, and every boss has its own attack pattern, arena and weakness. No two boss fights reuse the same template, which makes the campaign denser than the level count suggests.

The pixel art is colorful and hand-drawn rather than algorithmically pixelated. The world map hides secrets that reward exploration with bonus stages, alternate routes and unlockable skills. The chiptune music doesn't quote any specific era, but the overall feel sits between an SNES platformer and a Game Boy Advance one. Several color schemes for MagiCat unlock as you progress.
