realMyst Masterpiece Edition

realMyst: Masterpiece Edition is Cyan's 2014 modernization of the original Myst, marking the 20th anniversary. The package presents Myst in real-time 3D graphics, letting you freely roam through the island and Ages rather than the original's pre-rendered slideshow. Reconstructed models and textures, dynamic water, weather, lighting, foliage and focus enhance every environment.

The Ages return: Myst Island, Channelwood, Selenitic, Stoneship, and the new bonus Rime Age that acts as an epilogue bridging to the sequel Riven. Day-night cycles add new exploration possibilities, with sunsets, thunderstorms, ambient crickets and a flashlight for nighttime exploration. The puzzles remain unchanged, but the freedom to explore now lets players approach them with the geography fully visible.

For players who find real-time 3D overwhelming, a Classic mode replicates the original point-and-click navigation with seamless transitions between fixed locations. Holding shift in Classic mode pops up the original Myst image alongside the new render for direct comparison. Auto-quality option adjusts settings based on framerate, bookmark feature saves progress, and Interactive Guides illustrate how to interact with objects when needed.
