About Slipstream
Slipstream is an arcade racing game built to capture the spirit of the late 1980s and early 1990s, with its visuals, music, games and cars. It runs on a custom pseudo-3D engine that uses scaled 2D sprites to fake depth, just like the arcade racers of that era, paired with a synthpop and jazz fusion soundtrack made on period synthesizers.
The driving has real depth despite the retro look. Drifting is required to get around tight corners, and the namesake slipstream is a risky maneuver that grants a speed boost when pulled off correctly. The game spans 20 tracks across exotic locations worldwide, including cities, deserts, forests, mountains and beaches, and five car models, each with its own specs and playstyle.
Six game modes give the racing variety: the road-trip-style Grand Tour with branching paths and rivals, the freely customizable Cannonball, a five-race Grand Prix championship with money to upgrade your car, single races, time trials and an elimination-style Battle Royale. Local multiplayer supports up to four players, and graphical options include CRT and NTSC filters for full authenticity.
