Solar Ash

Solar Ash is Heart Machine's follow-up to Hyper Light Drifter, trading the latter's top-down pixel art for a fast-paced third-person action adventure across surreal dreamscapes. Rei, a Voidrunner, is determined to stop the Ultravoid from devouring her planet, and the journey takes her through long-abandoned ruins of civilizations that fell to the same void before her.

Movement is the centerpiece. Rei skates across the ashen surfaces of swallowed worlds, grinds along rails with momentum-preserving grace, grapples to wild heights, and surfs the cloud layers stretching between ruined landscapes. The flow rarely stops, and even combat against the grotesque void creatures keeps Rei moving rather than rooted.

The enormous boss creatures called Remnants are the structural pillars of each area. Each Remnant is a multi-stage navigation puzzle: identifying weak points on a creature the size of a mountain, plotting a route across its surface, and chaining grappling and skating into a takedown. Story threads about the Starseed, Echo, and Rei's true mission unfold across the chase. Eduardo Vaisman composed the synth-heavy score.
