SpeedRunners is a four-player competitive platformer built on a single brutal rule: the screen follows the leader, and anyone who falls too far behind gets eliminated by being scrolled off-screen. The framing — a city packed with superheroes, where the competition is over which one reaches the next crime first — exists mainly to justify why the runners are flinging missiles, mines and grappling hooks at each other while sprinting across rooftops.
Momentum is everything. You run, jump, swing on grappling hooks, slide through tunnels and use level interactions to maintain speed, and most of the strategic depth sits in when to fight versus when to outrun the pack. Power-ups arrive at irregular intervals — rockets, mines, freeze rays, more grapple-related dirty tricks — and a well-timed mine in a chokepoint can collapse the order of the race for everyone behind it.
The game supports local and online play in any combination, including hybrid lobbies where couch players face online opponents. Bots fill in when you don't have enough humans, and the suite ships with a tutorial, a dozen expertly designed maps, unique game modifiers, a single-player campaign, and a full level editor that has already produced tens of thousands of user-built levels. Trails appear visibly behind you when you hit super-speed; you can build custom ones, partly for cosmetic flex and partly so your opponents can identify you for targeting.
