About STAR WARS Battlefront II (Classic, 2005)
STAR WARS Battlefront II (Classic, 2005) is Pandemic Studios' sequel to the original 2004 Battlefront, restored on Steam with online multiplayer support intact. Unlike its 2017 namesake from DICE, this is the original game that veterans of the series have been replaying for nearly two decades.
The single-player campaign follows the rise of the 501st Legion across the films' timeline — clone troopers in Episode III locations like Utapau, Mustafar, and the Coruscant space battle, then stormtroopers in classic-trilogy settings including the second Death Star, Tantive IV, and Dagobah.
Six soldier classes plus bonus heroes for each of the four factions (Rebels, Imperials, CIS, Republic). 30+ vehicles include the BARC speeder, AT-RT, ARC 170, and Jedi Starfighter, mixing ground and space combat. Playable Jedi characters wielding lightsabers and Force powers were the big new addition in this sequel.
Space combat is full-scale: dogfight in starcraft, land on capital ships, fight through them on foot. Up to 64 players online across five modes — Conquest, Assault, one-flag and two-flag CTF, and Hunt. The Steam restoration brought back online play after the original GameSpy services died.
