Vaporum

Vaporum is a first-person, grid-based dungeon crawler RPG, a single-player adventure dressed in an unusual steampunk style. It draws on old-school classics like Dungeon Master and the Eye of the Beholder series, as well as the more recent Legend of Grimrock games. Cast away on an islet far out at sea, in the shadow of an enormous mechanical tower, the hero has to figure out where he is, what took place here and, most of all, his own identity.

Combat plays out in real time, and each enemy has its own strengths and weaknesses, so beating them calls for different tactics, while weapon types carry unique bonuses and behaviors. Rather than improving a human character, you upgrade the exo-rig strapped to your body: a gadget-based system lets you swap your loadout of attacks, area effects and buffs at any time, while unlocking rig circuits hands you lasting attribute boosts and passive perks.

Beyond combat there are intriguing puzzles and objectives, some confined to a single room, others spanning whole levels, that test both wits and reflexes. The mysterious storyline is told through fully voiced main characters, so written notes can be read for backstory or safely skipped. Many optional areas and secret passages hide one-of-a-kind items and the written records of those who lived there.
