About Who Needs a Hero
Who Needs a Hero? is a small RPG that leans hard into absurd humor and tabletop-roleplay sensibilities. You start with a stick and a dream and make choices that escalate into a hero — or anti-hero — known across the kingdom. Fame, wealth, followers, and the kingdom's future are all tracked, and your decisions weave together into branching outcomes.
Combat is tactical and dice-driven, modelled on tabletop systems. You roll dice, use special items, deploy skills, and face mythical beasts, deities, and other players. The presentation makes the dice rolls visible as actual game pieces.
The customisation layer is extensive and unapologetically silly. Decorate your home with trophies — including a collection of "panties" that unlock prestigious titles and admirer attention. Ride dragons, pigs, Cerberus, or other mythical creatures. Trade with merchants for items or with the black market, where followers themselves become currency.
The karma system tracks your moral trajectory — noble champion or rogue with questionable ethics — and the kingdom reacts accordingly. AI-powered follower chat lets you have dynamic conversations with your in-game devoted following. References to popular games and anime are scattered throughout the cast. Medieval fantasy 2D art carries the visual aesthetic; the writing carries the rest.
