About Warsim The Realm of Aslona
Warsim: The Realm of Aslona is a deep, text-based kingdom-ruling sim with charming ASCII graphics, the long-running passion project of a single developer who has been refining it for the better part of a decade. The framing is straightforward — you rule the kingdom of Aslona, and your only goal is to keep it running — but the systems underneath are far stranger than that summary suggests, and the game's reputation rests on how seriously it takes the consequences of giving the player genuine freedom.
The throne room is the day-to-day interface. Visitors line up to make requests, offer deals, beg favours, run scams or seek employment; over a thousand distinct encounter types feed into the system. You can hire a steward to handle them, install trap doors to dispose of nuisances, jail every musician who visits to discourage bards, gamble away your treasury on scorpion fights, or take out a 1-gold loan from the bank and then destroy the bank because you owe them money. The game permits it all and tracks the ripples.
The procedural systems are the project's signature achievement. Around 94 million possible races can spawn — Seafaring Goblins, Fire Orcs, Eyeless Elves, Inbred Trench Dwarves and the Half-Turtles of the Western Turtledom among them — each with their own birth rates, civility levels, unique units, laws, and prefix-derived racial abilities. Faces are even wilder, with over 100 quadrillion possible variations, meaning every NPC you encounter is a face genuinely no one else has ever seen. Around the throne sit a vast world of arenas, taverns, festivals, monster pits, music guilds, in-tavern minigames, and infinite procedural exploration — far more than the store page bothers to enumerate.
