About Death Must Die

Death Must Die is a roguelite bullet-heaven in the Vampire Survivors lineage, but with a heavier RPG bent. The Bard frames the story at the start: heroes have climbed the High Mount to enter Death's realm for centuries, and none have returned. This time, an unsung higher power has decided to back the heroes. A pantheon of gods has chosen to stand against one of their own, and you play whichever hero accepts the quest.

Gameplay covers the survivors-genre fundamentals — you move, enemies swarm, your abilities auto-fire, and the goal is staying alive through escalating waves while building synergies between blessings and items. Each run, you choose from hundreds of god-given blessings to assemble specific build identities. The combinations have real depth, with synergetic interactions that can produce game-breaking effects if you find them.

The item layer adds further variety. Randomized and unique items drop during runs, easing future attempts and producing build variations the blessing system alone couldn't reach. You can choose to increase your odds of finding lost relics at the cost of empowering Death's legions — a literal risk-reward toggle for players who want it.

A cast of varied heroes unlocks over time, each with their own game-altering traits and personal stories to discover as you explore the Underworld. The pantheon of gods has its own narrative about why they've decided to act against Death, and the ancient shrines, mythical creatures and other inhabitants of the Underworld each carry their own pieces of lore. Hard-to-access achievements reward serious players. The whole package is one of the more substantial entries in the post-Vampire Survivors wave, with more RPG mass than most of its peers.
