About The Great Rebellion
The Great Rebellion is a 16-bit pixel-art run-and-gun roguelite set in a cyberpunk dystopia where the Lucis Lux Mega-Corporation owns everything and the people own nothing. The technocratic elites running the show want digital immortality and don't care what they have to do — or who they have to grind through — to get it. You play Human 10.28, an ordinary worker who decides he's had enough.
Gameplay uses mouse/twin-stick shooter controls layered on 2D side-scrolling movement. Levels are randomly generated, the soundtrack is dynamic and adjusts to the combat intensity, and the arsenal of 60-plus weapons rotates through every run. You upgrade your character between attempts, find items, unlock allies that fight alongside you, and discover the spirits of historical European heroes who grant special powers when called on.
Multiple difficulty modes accommodate different tastes. Permadeath is optional rather than mandatory, so players who want the roguelite feel without the punishing finality can dial the experience back. The retro pixel art commits to its 16-bit aesthetic without falling into nostalgia bait, and the synthwave-tinged dynamic soundtrack carries the dystopian mood through every run.
The political framing — fighting a corporation that owns reality on behalf of the people it grinds down — sits visibly underneath the action. It's not subtle, and it isn't trying to be. The Great Rebellion knows what kind of game it wants to be and commits to it across every level.
