About Escape the Backrooms
Escape the Backrooms takes the creepypasta lore from the internet's Backrooms phenomenon and builds it into a structured cooperative horror game. Up to four players explore over 30 unique levels based on canonical Backrooms entries — the original yellow rooms, the Poolrooms, the basement, the manila hotel, and progressively stranger places — each with its own escape route and its own threats.
The gameplay leans on atmosphere. Realistic graphics, minimal HUD, dreary fluorescent ambience, and proximity voice chat that lets you hear teammates only when they're close. Entities also hear you, so you stay quiet near anything that might be hunting. Every member of the team must reach the level's exit alive for the group to escape; teammates can no-clip into other areas of the map, and rescuing them is part of the design.
Fat Dog Games' design treats each level as its own escape puzzle with its own mechanical identity, drawn directly from the Backrooms wiki's documented levels. Entities each have their own behavior patterns, audio signatures, and counters — learning each one is part of the survival curve, and many groups die multiple times before figuring out which entity was even chasing them.
