About In Other Waters
In Other Waters casts you not as a person but as the artificial intelligence inside a diving suit. The suit belongs to Ellery Vas, a xenobiologist called to the planet Gliese 677Cc by her partner Minae Nomura, only to arrive at an abandoned base. With a malfunctioning suit and a strange AI for company, Ellery is adrift in an alien ocean, and you are that AI.
You guide and protect Ellery as she dives deeper, interpreting signals, setting headings and mapping the seafloor through an elegant, abstract interface rather than direct visuals. Discovery is the loop: observe, scan and sample alien creatures, read Ellery's notes and sketches, and help her catalogue an entirely new ecosystem while unlocking upgrades that open fresh paths from shimmering reefs to inky depths.
Through limited communication, the bond between you and Ellery is tested by the secrets you uncover together, and the story leads her toward a terrible truth. It is a deliberately non-violent game that asks what separates natural life from artificial, and what it means to be human in an era of severe environmental ruin. In Other Waters was made by Jump Over the Age, the one-person studio of award-winning developer Gareth Damian Martin.
