About Kathy Rain Director's Cut
Kathy Rain: Director's Cut is the expanded re-release of Clifftop Games' 2016 point-and-click detective mystery, set in the 1990s American small town of Conwell Springs. You play Kathy Rain, a journalism major returning to her hometown to investigate the mysterious death of her grandfather Joseph.
Gameplay is classic point-and-click adventure with detective trappings — gather clues, analyse evidence, interrogate suspects, solve cryptic puzzles, ride a motorcycle between locations. The 90s setting is handled with deliberate period detail: pagers, payphones, dial-up internet, cigarette breaks, denim jackets.
The Director's Cut adds substantially to the original. The story is extended with a longer and more satisfying ending, 700+ new lines of dialogue with the original voice cast, several new areas to explore, and additional puzzles. Game environments are enlarged to fill widescreen monitors without black bars, with extra character animations, improved lighting, and better weather effects.
Dave Gilbert (Wadjet Eye Games) directed the voice acting in both editions. Daniel Kobylarz's atmospheric original soundtrack is remixed and expanded for this release. The mystery itself — what Joseph was really searching for that night, what made him a shell of a man, what secret a suicidal young artist took to the grave — sits firmly in the X-Files lineage of small-town American mystery.
